The famous modern Hungarian composer Gabor Presser is suing Kanye West for sampling his song “Gyöngyhajú Lány”, performed by the group Omega, without his permission. Presser claims Kanye West used his music on the track “New Slaves” from West’s 2013 album “Yeezus” without his permission. The composer is suing Kanye West for $2.5 million.
Gabor Pressor confirmed that Kanye West sent him a $10,000 for the right to the songs. However the deal fell through and the check was never cashed.
Songs being stolen from other artists is a common theme in modern music. In 2015 the Marvin Gaye Estate sued Robin Thicke for stealing the track line from “Got To Give It Up” and using it in “Blurred Lines”. Also in 2015, Tom Petty accused pop artist Sam Smith of plagiarizing his song “I Won’t Back Down” in Smith’s hit song “Stay With Me”.
